White noise is very similar, in the sense that white noise comprises all the various elements of sound at different frequencies.

Boggled?

Think of a time when you heard the following sounds:

  • A cymbal crashing from a marching band.
  • The waves lapping on a sandy shore.
  • The spring rain as it falls atop trees.
  • The whirling blades of a table fan.

All these sounds a great approximations of white noise. When you were listening to these noises, did you notice that they would drown out other noises as well?

Find out how you can use white noise for meditation for anxiety, as well as a FREE MP3 download that you can use for free!

Imagine you were at a cocktail party and you were talking to a friend. As soon as another person joined the conversation, although you could only focus on talking to one person, you had to split your attention between the two people in order to remain sociable. Now imagine if EVERYONE at the cocktail party started to talk to you at the same time simultaneously -- and suddenly your cellphone started to ring; you would probably not be able to hear it!7

However, keep in mind that white noise is usually best used to help mask out offending noises, not completely overwhelm it.

There are many machines on the market that can help you generate approximations of white noise in its various forms, such as wave sounds at the beach or a light rain. Most of these machines are sold as sleep enhancers that will help tune out unwanted noises for a better night's sleep. Sadly these devices are not only bulky or cumbersome to use, they can be also be really expensive to get!

Luckily for us, it is EASY to create and use white noise for meditation.
