Mastering basic tricks of remembering names

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Remembering names can be a tricky task. This is evidently true when the social circle of a person gets bigger by interacting with people, or there are simply too many names in common for one to remember. One of the simplest ways to remember names is to pay close attention when a name is being introduced. It will be beneficial for one to repeat the name over and over again for a few times to lock the memory firmly in the human brain. If one forgets, simply ask for the name from that person again and repeat the steps.

There are times when verbalized repeating of names is just inadequate enough to remember. Do ask for a name card from the person or write down the name on a piece of paper three times. This method is to memorize names by visualizing pictures. It must be done as soon as possible after meeting the person.

One of the fascinating methods is to remember the names of persons by drawing a connection with the person's hobby or employment. For example, John the nurse, Mary the butcher, Joan the chef etc. It will help tremendously in reinforcing memory.

Writing down names, by far, is one of the most effective methods of remembering names, especially in a social gathering. It is an extremely successful method that does not require a lot of effort from a person. All one needs is a personal diary/notebook, pen and a name card holder. Using mnemonic devices and strategies can help in boosting memory and expanding one's mind capacity in remembering additional information.

It pays to connect names with common words that can help one to form a distinctive linkage. For example, Cherie for cherry, Bill for pills, Candace for candy etc. This will significantly enhance a person's ability to remember people's names better.

Forgetting a person's name not only embarrass but will make one cringe standing next to the person and drawing a blank look on the face. Many business plans, romantic dates and even friendships foiled because of the inability to recall names. Thus, such mistakes in a face-to -face situation can set one apart. Single syllable American names, for example, Bill, Jack, Ken, can cause confusion as these names can get blended together in the brains and easily be dismissed.

In a summary, there are tricks in remembering names. In fact, mastering just one or two tricks is already proficient enough to handle most names in one's memory capacity. The problem is that most people tend to be over immersed in themselves when names are being introduced to them. Either one is too obsessed with setting a favorable first impression or simply not paying attention at that moment. When one first hear a new name, he or she will be too emotionally or visually involved in the new person, thinking that this may help in remembering the person's name better. However, this is not true. A person's mind floats away at that crucial moment will find it extremely difficult to recall the name even seconds later. Therefore, it pays to master the tricks to safeguard one's interests.

How to Focus on studying

Friday, January 6th, 2012

All of us has limited time concentration span. Focusing on studying can be a tedious chore, especially if one does not like the subject nature of the task. However, there are simply times that we have to keep things going and finish up the work given to us. Thus, it pays to seek alternatives to help one concentrate better. Although it remains a fact that there are readily available methods that are viable, not all will suit everyone’s needs. Human beings are all distinctive individuals. One method that can fit an individual perfectly may not be suitable for another person. The fantastic news is concentration is somewhat comparable to mastering the skills of learning to ride a bicycle.

Once a person has perfected the skills, chances are it will be highly unlikely to be forgotten. The biggest barrier is to convince a person to acknowledge and identify the problem early. It can be a tedious task to make a person believe that focusing skills can be acquired. Stereotyping proved to be the largest barrier that hinders one from curbing the problem. Humans tend to believe that it is tough to focus but little do they realize the full potential of the human brain. Many people know that only a certain percentage out of the total capacities of the human mind is utilized in one’s entire lifetime. The human brain has ability to concentrate on doing a task. However, it will be difficult if one’s mind tells the body that it does not like the task. Therefore, one has to like the subject in order to focus on studying. This is the fundamental stage before other alternatives can be discussed and resolved.

Hence, many will agree that it is much easier to focus on something that one prefers or enjoys doing, such as, favorite hobbies, reading comics, watching TV etc. On the other hand, one will, find it a torture to concentrate on studying for exams, working on school projects and studying a company’s financial report. This is the reality of life that one has to recognize and identify it as a part of everyday lives.

Other common barriers includes, work stress, lifestyle changes and prioritizing on any other things than studying. It will be difficult to focus if one does not think its urgent enough to study for it. Likewise, stress from work or personal life can have a significant impact on focusing. One will be too occupied with other issues rather concentrate on what is written in the books. However, barriers can be also due to leisure purposes, for example, preoccupied on the phone or watching television. These are to sum up on the fact that most popular and probably only way in focusing better in studying is to change the stereotyping of a person. Once this is achieved, it will be much easier to adopt other methods to keep up the momentum in the long run. There will also be lesser chances of failing to concentrate.

Learning how to remember names

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Learning how to remember names shows respect and appreciation to the person. However we tend to forget certain names easily but surely not intentionally due to factors like stress, overwhelming information, heavy work load, fatigue and so on. The list just continues. Forgetting a person’s name not only creates a negative impression that person has on you but also makes you embarrassed in a tight spot. Here's some measures on how to remember names effectively.

Maintaining a cool deposition is one of the simplest methods to remember a name. The rule of the thumb is to forget about yourself and concentrate onto the others. If you try too hard in making a good impression, chances are that you won't even know who you are trying to impress, being the fact that you will get so nervous and forget the name. Thus overly self consciousness and nervousness tend to interfere with your brain and affects your memory.

Using techniques of inner monologue helps in reaffirming one's memory in remembering names. While we do not want the others to be irritated by overusing their names just to get it set in our brains, we can adopt an alternative trick. There are countless opportunities where you can actually repeat the name to yourself without saying it out. For example, when the person is talking on the phone, sleeping or even eating. All you need to do is to look at the person silently and repeat the name to yourself several times to reaffirm the name in your memory. It's as simple as that. Another effective way is to introduce someone else first before the nameless person. For example: “Have you met my business partner Jerry?” You asked the nameless person. “No, I haven't." He replied, and he introduces himself to Jerry: “Hi my name is Benedict, nice to meet you." Bingo! Now you know his name without letting him know you actually forgot it. Introducing someone else to another person you just met not only will help you remember the names better but also benefits you in building up close networks with your friends and let you take charge of the situation.

Attitude plays an important role in helping a person remembering names. One has to change his or her mindset that he is no longer bad with names. The person must have a firm attitude and determination to change his/her stigma thus change for the better. After all it only takes about a few seconds to change your attitude. Practice makes perfect. Thus practice, practice and only practice will perfect one's skills of remembering names. Honestly this is not going to be an easy task. But over time after practicing with so many methods listed above, you will realize which are the ones that are most effective for you. Remembering names effectively will help you to cross over the chasm between you and your friends/family members. This will eventually lead to an effective communication for all.

How to remove negative energy

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

It is crucial to remove negative energy as an essential part of our everyday lives in order to maintain our state of mind and to stay happy. However, negative energy is a negative aura that surrounds us, creating grief, depression and numerous setbacks for us if we don't act fast to ward it off from our bodies. For this reason, one will need a cleansing ritual to cleanse our body to remove the unwanted energies and replace them with positive ones.

Some items you may need but not really necessary are fresh flowers, incense blends, smudge sticks, crystals, precious stones and sea salt. Most importantly, you need to find a quiet spot that is free from disturbances while you perform the ritual.

Close your eyes and start to remove all the negative thoughts one by one slowly off your mind. For example, stress from work, quarrels, grief from death of loved ones etc. Imagine yourself taking a piece of eraser and start erasing every word off the paper. This should be the correct way. When you feel that your mind has been emptied, face the sea salt into a bowl and place it right in the center on the spot where you are sitting. Light up the incense or candles as well if you have them. As the smoke from the incense start to rise up slowly in the air, use your eyes to follow the direction of smoke that is rising into the air. It does not matter whether it's in any direction. Follow it with your eyes and recite an example of any positive statement you like: "I am removing negative energies from my body and bless it with divine happiness and light."

After the cleansing ritual has been completed, you should feel yourself brimming with positive energy and in a state of calmness and serenity. The negative energies are removed and gone for good. Now you can choose to place the fresh flowers around the meditation spot to retain the positive energies and surround them with crystals to keep the negative energies away and from re-entering your body. Now you may wish to sit and stay in the very same spot a bit longer to immerse yourself in this peaceful moment. This healing and meditation process helps us in our day to day functions and prevent many health related problems that are due to stress related problems from occurring, for example, heart diseases and stroke. The concept of meditation and ritual also helps us to understand our body experiences and going through a state of calmness and solitude. This sensation of absolute peace and serenity became the feelings that people sought after.

Removing unwanted energy has become part of peoples' lives. This is evidently true for city dwellers considering the tremendous amount of stress and problems they face everyday at work, home or anywhere. The presences of negative energy make us aware of the importance of positive energy and how to welcome them into our body, mind and soul.

Self taught methods on how to concentrate on studying

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Concentrating on studying is one of the most difficult tasks ever, especially if you hate what you are studying. I suppose many will agree with me on this statement. The art of concentration takes skills and tactics to master. Though it's tough, it's not impossible. No matter whether you are studying for exams or learning how to swim, the most important element in concentrating to focus on what you are doing and learn the various ways of saying 'NO' to distractions.

It's difficult to convince a non productive person that he/she has the ability to concentrate, but the truth is, human are blessed naturally with this instinct to do so, believe it or not. It all depends on oneself whether you want to make full use of this capability or choose to ignore this 'gift from god' and start to make excuses for yourself. Think of the occasions where one happily indulge yourself in something you love doing for hours and hours till you even forget the time. For example, playing your favorite games, chatting with your friends, shopping, a nice day at the beach etc. Isn't this considered as concentrating? This is total concentration. Thus humans tend to display concentration for what they loved doing and find it difficult when they start to find the tasks tedious. This is human nature.

Here are some common barriers that keep us away from concentrating in our tasks. Our worries, stresses from our daily lives create mental strain in our minds, preventing us to concentrate. While one will try very hard to take things off their mind and focus, human mind will tend to priorities 'worries' at the top of the list, leaving the job that needs to be done at the bottom until the problem is resolved. This is by far one of the toughest barriers ever and is also quite difficult to get rid of unless you belong to the sort of person that can draw a very clear line between emotions and serious work. Sadly to say, only minority have this ability as it is only pure human nature that we are all driven by our emotions.

Other contributing factors are relatively much easier to solve. Our minds tend to drift off while trying very hard to concentrate. Something much interesting out there simply takes our eyes and minds away, for example, favorite movies, food, noise, music etc. The list continues. Your mind drifted from one thing to another and before you realize, much of the precious time has been wasted away. Sometimes it could be the material or the tasks you are doing is simply of no interest to you or just too boring or too difficult understand. The rule of the thumb is to cultivate best practices and do everything that is within your limits to keep tasks under your control. Do not let distractions overpower your mind. One may wish to a keep a strict diary or timetable and stick closely to it. Give rewards to pamper yourself, for example, your favorite snack or 1 hour for games or favorite TV shows after you have finished your tasks within stimulated time. The issue of how to concentrating on studying is not as difficult as it seems to be after all.

A Look into Distant Healing

Friday, December 30th, 2011

The theory of distant healing is relatively close to our everyday lives. Humans need food to fill our stomach, not only to prevent hunger but also to provide us with a source of energy. Remote healing is literally defined as healing our aura. All humans have energy sources that surround our body, namely Auras (energy fields), Chakras (energy center) and Meridians (energy pathways). Auras absorb energy from outer sources, chakras break down the energy and meridians distribute the energy evenly around the body. When our physical bodies, thoughts and emotions vibrate, an aura is created by vibrations or pulsations. Other concepts about distant healing include its principles, we must be aware that there are few layers of energy bodies within the energy field. The enteric field is the first layer of the energy body varying from 1/4 to 2 inches from the body, a duplicate of your body. The second layer is the emotional field, extending 1 to 3 inches beyond the body. It is actually associated with the mental processes, varying from 3 to 8 inches from the body. The last layer which is the spiritual field is made up of 4 or more layers allowing us to expose ourselves to a higher spiritual dimension, activating only when we pray, meditate or channel. All these layers represent our mental, emotional and physical spiritual selves.

In order to commence a healing session, one must be knowledgeable about these different layers of energies. The practitioner will conduct the healing session from the clinic and the patient will receive the treatment from the comfort of his or her home. This can actually be done at anywhere around the world. Based on a scientific explanation, the practitioner uses the theory of non-local quantum hologram, which means the information of the patient via his or her mind can be 'felt' by the practitioner or the healer by connecting both the parties together. All the healer needs to know is the name and address of the client in order to perform the healing process.

Basically we can define as healing by means of 'feeling'. However, this does not seem as some kind of joke. Scientific experiments have been conducted and proven that when the healer is being connected to the patient, energies are known to produce changes in the body cells and is reflected in the client's body cells which are miles away. These non-local events not only happen in distant healing but also in our daily life. Some twins are said to be able to feel each other miles away, sensing one another's well being. A dog is actually aware of its owner's demise simply by sense of smell. Do we doubt and question these as part of insanity or mere rubbish? I doubt so. Given the fact that it is also supported by scientific evidence, we can choose to give distant healing a try as a good alternative to traditional healing. Undoubtedly, it gives medical science a new glimpse of hope for incurable diseases and let patients see the miracles for themselves.

Smart Ways to remember names

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Famous sociologist Sigmund Freud once commented that a person's name is one single context that is most easily forgotten by the human brain. Although the human mind has the ability to store many memories, there could be just some exceptions that some names just slipped our minds. The feeling can be most embarrassing and sometimes may even lead to possible misunderstandings between people. You don't feel good when people forget your name or addresses you by some funny or rude nicknames, like: " Hey you!"

Please do not push the fault on forgetfulness, laziness or simply cannot be bothered. It's considered rude and offensive in our present society and one can be misjudged to be ignorant and uncivilized for committing such blunder. Mastering the skills of remembering names give a person an upper hand during social gatherings and interactions with people. Comprising of the few factors, namely, visual, aural and strategic techniques, it is possible to enhance the different ways to remember names.

Some of the most effective’s methods are in fact, relatively simple and precise. Repetition is one of them. When a new name is being introduced to a person, he has to make sure the name is being verbalized out loudly so that he remembers it. Repeating the names creates strong signals to the brain that this piece of information is important and needs to be stored permanently. This highly effective method is especially beneficial for people who claim that they are forgetful.

Next method is to show genuine interest in the person's name and its variations, for example, if a person's name is David, you may want to ask how the person would like to be called. Dave, or David. Most likely the person will have positive impression of you when you display concern. Preferably you may want to inquire the meaning of the name and why the name was chosen. People will love to tell others the origin of their names and feel proud of it. Indirectly you have showed them that you care and ultimately it enhance your memory of remembering the person's name.

Dramatizing faces also helps in remembering faces and names. For example, David has a mole on his cheek and Lucy has a flat nose with a round shaped face. Associating facial features along with names helps in conceptualizing memory into a long term date store in the brain. To a certain extent this method can be interesting, memorable but yet can also be quite offensive if you remember by associating person's bad points with names. Thus keep it to yourself if you do it this way.

If you are a visual learner, the best way is to keep a small diary and note it down. This method is almost flawless and one can never forget unless you lose your diary. When a name is introduced to you, simply write down the name in your diary as your first step. This creates a great impression if that person sees you doing it. He or she will feel appreciated and happy. After writing down, take a few close look at the person's face and the name few times repeatedly. You will never forget anymore.

Different ways to remove negative energy

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Negative energy has become a reality of our daily lives. It is almost unavoidable to prevent negative energies from entering our lives. One meets a depressed friend who pours out her sorrows to him. You just received a phone call that your loved ones had passed away. You are facing extreme stress from your boss at work and has difficulty paying your monthly bills. Negative energy is everywhere in our lives, ready to invade into our bodies and humans are often vulnerable to these invasions.

Since ancient times humans have tried to remove negative energies by means of carrying pendants, precious stones, chanting spells, burning incense and meditations to ward off the undesired force. But there are just times where the force gets so incredibly high and difficult that none of these may work. Probably one may need some new interventions to prevent the negative energies from spewing forth. The truth to how to removing negative energy is important to maintain a clear state of mind for oneself, as well to keep yourself in a vigilant state to rationalize and maintain your sanity.

One of the most effective methods of removing negative energies is to create a ritual circle for yourself. It will be good if you have incense blends or stones to go hand in hand with the ritual but not absolutely necessary. Find a quiet spot and position yourself in a comfortable position, preferably sitting down so you don't fall over. Imagine yourself as a vessel filled with 'dirty stuff' (negative energies) and waiting to be emptied off. From the very bottom of your feet, envision negative energies as black smoke that is slowly rising from your feet, passing through your organs and moving up to your upper body. Finally it reaches your neck, face and head. The smoke gradually moves out of the top of your head like a rooftop and disappears into thin air.

No one will feel yourself 'clean' and in a state of calmness and purity. It's time to fill this empty vessel with positive energies to replace the negative forces. In the same way the negative energies had left your body, envision white smoke slowly entering the top of your head and moving downwards into your body till it reaches your feet. Trust your intuitions and senses, if you think too much of white smoke has entered your body, release some of it back to Mother Earth. You will be able to feel it.

At this time you will be brimming with positive energies and feel peaceful and calm. One may wish to sit longer at the same spot to enjoy this moment and to think about your existing problems. Do not be surprise that now you can think and rationalize so much better and there will not feel any sense of grief when you think about depressing issues. Instead you find yourself even calmer and stronger to face up to your problems. Pamper yourself after the ritual with your favorite stuff. You will feel much better in no time.

How to focus on studying an in depth Discussion

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Studying is not a difficult task to accomplish, but having to focus on studying can be quite a tedious process. Sadly, humans are not gifted to focus on studying the subjects that we do not like, but that does not mean that it's impossible. Here are some tips to help you focus in studying better.

Keep a strict timetable and make sure you follow it faithfully, or at least 90%. Do not make excuses for yourself. A timetable that is not adhered to strictly is as good as not having it at all. Draft out a lists of tasks to accomplish for the day and prioritize them, finishing the most important subjects followed by the least important materials. People will tend to put their focus on tasks that are extremely pressing and urgent. This is human nature. Next draft out a timeline together with a short term goal as well as a long term goal. What do you want to achieve in your field of study. If you are studying for exams, what grades do you want to score for each and every subject? Document everything down on a paper and paste it on an eye catchy corner in your room where you can see it every day while studying. Goals are in fact known as 'anticipated' rewards if you really work towards them without fail. One will get their just rewards after following your goals closely. Thus make this your motivation to help you focus in studying as this is one of the most lucrative ways to help you get started and be focused.

Weigh your consequences. What will likely happen if you do not study enough? One may likely to fail in an exam or get lousy grades. Or you may produce works which are poor in quality. But what's worse in not focusing in study is that you end up learning little or nothing at all from the books but just pure wasting of your precious time. It does not really matter what you are studying for, but most importantly one has to benefit from it. Knowledge has to be absorbed and remembered in the human minds to benefit us in the long run. This seemed like one of the ways to frighten and threaten yourself but it works to a certain extent. Humans are always of the unknown. While we venture in a journey from the known to the unknown, fears and doubts escalates and indirectly this creates a negative form of motivation for a person to focus more in studying so as to prevent the unknown outcome which most likely will be disastrous.

Reward yourself every time when you finish studying for a desired period of time set in your diary. This will help you to focus more and more for the subsequent sessions. Have your favorite snack, pamper yourself to movies, shopping or even a short nap can get yourself recharged and ready for the next battle with the books. As the saying goes, to recharge is to prepare yourself for a longer and more effective journey. Focusing in studying is possible and can be achieved without much pains and hassle. How to focus on studying? The answers are clear now.

Learn the steps of problem solving techniques

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

If you find yourself thinking in circles when trying to solve a problem, it is time to think outside the box using creative problem solving techniques. Sometimes rational thought just isn't the best way to come up with a solution. Inspiration and creative thought can be much more valuable.

The first step in creative problem solving is to assess your approach to the problem. What assumptions have you made in thinking there is a problem in the first place? Are these assumptions valid? Or have you invented roadblocks that do not really exist? For example, you might think that you need to get a new job. If you step back and challenge the assumptions that led you to this conclusion, you might find that the "problem" is invalid or incomplete. You might realize that you only think you need a new job because you need more income. Now that you've challenged your assumptions and uncovered the real problem, you can think about getting more income without changing jobs--perhaps by selling off items you no longer use or by lowering your expenses. Now you have completely changed your original problem! What started out as "I need a new job" has become "I need more income," and now you are better equipped to find a solution.

Brainstorming is a time-tested technique, but if you've used it a lot you may be getting tired of it. For a creative twist on brainstorming, try reverse brainstorming. Instead of thinking about what the problem is, think about what the problem is not.

Another creative approach is to change your perspective. Instead of thinking about how you see the problem and what steps you might take to solve it, imagine how the situation looks to someone else. Maybe you envision the problem from the perspective of a child or a very poor person, or even a visitor from outer space. What differences do you see in the problem? What new solutions present themselves? This approach is sometimes called the Napoleon Technique.

Breaking big problems into smaller ones is also a good approach. What seemed daunting before now seems much more manageable. By separating out different aspects of the problem, you free yourself up to solve each aspect in the most creative, effective fashion, rather than trying to think up a single solution that encompasses everything at once.

Don't be afraid to harness the power of your subconscious mind in order to solve a problem. Unlimited by the rational mind, your subconscious can dream wildly and come up with unexpected approaches to problems. Some methods for using the subconscious mind include free writing and working just before sleep. If you want to try free writing, just set aside a chunk of time--10 to 20 minutes will do--and write down everything thought that comes to you. Don't censor yourself or eliminate any ideas because they seem too crazy or far fetched. The whole point is to think outside the box, so the crazier the better in this case! You can also prepare your sleeping mind to work on the problem by thinking about the problem as you wind down for sleep. Be sure to keep pen and paper handy so you can record your ideas when you wake up.
