Genius Dip: What’s Causing Your Child’s Intelligence to Drop Between 4-20 years of age?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

A Shocking Harvard Study Proved That Almost All Children Are Born With Extraordinary Levels of Multiple Intelligences, But Only 2% Retain Their Talents Into Adulthood…

How Convinced Are You That Your Child Is Not One of The 98% of Children Missing Out On His Extraordinary Potential?

I want to tell you a story… a true story of two children who grew up to be happy and successful in life. One is a photographer, the other a musician.

They are very much alike, these men. They are both living their dreams. Both are enjoying life to the fullest. And they are both receiving recognition for their wonderful creative expressions.

But there was a difference. One man took 80 years to achieve his dream. The other took just 20 years.

What Made The Difference?

Have you ever wondered, as have I, what makes some people able to achieve the success of their dreams and find their life purpose at such a young age? Have you always wanted to know how they did it, not so much for yourself, but even more for your children to have the life of opportunities you never had?

Well, let me tell you that it isn’t always talent, opportunity or hard work that makes the difference. Nor is it that one person harbors dreams and the other doesn’t.

The difference lies in the person’s growing years and the freedom he was given to retain and maximize his natural talents, intelligence and intuition. Without this nurtured freedom, a child would otherwise be confined, only to spend a lifetime searching and struggling to regain that magic.

Trust me, I know …

I am that 80+ year old man, and the 20-year-old musician is my grandson. Only at the age of of 78 did I start photography, and at the age of 80 my work was recognized by the International Photography Hall of Fame.

It was a great achievement at my age… yet at the same time, I saw my grandson, Shawn, living his musician dreams at an age when I was still naive in my direction. In just his early twenties, Shawn was already composing, singing and performing songs with his band, earning an Inland Empire Music Awards nomination for Best Indie Rock Group and Best Live Act, all while completing his college degree.

What was Shawn’s secret to utilizing his full potential, living his dreams and finding his life purpose at such an early age? How did he accomplish this feat four times faster than I did?

My 50 Year Journey To Reawaken My Inner Magic

Many people are surprised to know I only started photography at the age of 78. Many are even more surprised that I also started writing and painting at this age.

It was something I never had the talent for (or at least that’s what I thought)… but with my mastery of mind power techniques, I found a way to tap into and reawaken an inner magic that unleashed a creative expression I never thought I had it in me.

It was a long journey, but my experience enabled me to develop specific techniques and mental conditioning exercises. Once I saw for myself this true power of the mind, it became my mission to help others tap into the latent power of their mind and unleash their true inner magic.

The Right Intervention at the Right Time

Today at over 80 years old, I prefer to stay home, but I’ve been able to unleash my teachings to the entire world through the Internet. I now have a membership list of over 70,000 from my site called The American Monk, and through this I’ve reached out and transformed the lives of more people than I ever imagined possible with my teachings.

Today, looking back upon my experience, I noticed one prominent pattern. All the adults whom I’ve helped throughout my travels over the past 50 years were all natural geniuses that lost it somewhere, and they turned to me to help them regain the inner magic of their mind.

They too knew that they were more capable than what life currently holds for them. They too held the belief that the mind is the most powerful tool one can master. And just like me, they too were looking for the key to unlock their talents and excel in life.

But one day it dawned upon me what I should have realized a long time ago.

If the adults I was helping hadn’t lost their genius in the first place, would they be needing my help as adults to reawaken that inner magic?

Wouldn’t it then make more sense for an earlier intervention… to reach out to people when they are younger… to reach out to children?

It’s all about the RIGHT intervention at the RIGHT time, isn’t it?

Upon realizing this, I shifted my efforts to focus on children. I started to do some research. And I came across a shocking study.

Shocking Harvard Study Shows That Between Age 4 and Age 20, 98% Will Lose Their Capabilities for Genius That They Were Naturally Born With

I came across a Harvard study led by Howard Gardner, the professor that revolutionized our understanding of intelligence by being the first to define intelligence into seven different dimensions.

Leading a research group at Harvard called Project Zero, Howard Gardner made another discovery that shook the ground of psychology.

They proved that almost every child is born with genius! But after the age of 20, only a mere 2% retain their talents. 98% LOSE THEIR POTENTIAL.

I call this sad phenomena the Genius Dip.

Click Here To Get Your Free Copy of The Genius Dip Report >>

What is going on? Why does this Genius Dip happen?

SOMETHING happens during upbringing that causes 98% of children to have these abilities ERASED from their mind.

It can’t be genetic. Not when almost every child is born a genius. So if nature is not the answer, the only logical conclusion left is nurture.

But what? I asked myself the same question and after some investigation and research, the results both shocked and disappointed me.

Now please don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to sound like I’m against education, because I’m not. In fact, two of my daughters are school teachers and I’m proud of the work they do. Education is essential and important.

But there are shortcomings of the mass education system that you have to know… otherwise you too will be lulled into thinking that mass cookie-cutter school systems are enough to develop your child into a successful well-balanced adult.

Click Here To Get Your Free Copy of The Genius Dip Report >>

The Shortcomings of the Education System

Yes, while it is essential for your child to be in school, your children are going to need more than that in the world to come. They are going to need more than historical facts, geographic locations, mathematical ability, musical skills and the likes.

Those things are important BUT they will also need to know how to understand the world… how to communicate and interconnect with others… how to visualize goals and attract success. And in the bigger picture, how to tap into intuition, fulfill their life purpose and leave behind a mark in their world.

But all of that… they don’t learn in school.

You can’t blame the system though. It’s unfortunately an inevitable shortcoming of any mass system. The old-fashioned cookie cutter method of mass education destroys any chance of meeting each individual child’s needs of creative nurturing.

The Genius Dip: Why Children Are Losing their Genius Potential and What You Can Do to Help Your Child

Are you one of those people that see genius as a “gift”? Do you still believe that a person is either born with intelligence, or they’re not? Do you still believe in the old-fashioned myth that intelligence is inherited?

Could you be one of the parents unknowingly holding back your own child’s genius because you are stuck with this old-programming belief that genius is only exclusive to the “lucky” few?

Because you truly care about the most important asset of out future – our CHILDREN – I’m going to share with you the most crucial discoveries that I’ve made in my 50 years of collected knowledge of the mind’s power and potential.

Here’s what I’m going to share with you in my report:

  • How to unleash the hidden abilities of the mind at ANY age
  • The Harvard study discovery that will forever change how you see the mind’s potential
  • The ugly truth about America’s “No Child Left Behind” campaign and how it is the worst disaster any government ever inflicted upon children
  • The crucial elements you must understand to IMMEDIATELY save your child’s genius capability from the shocking factors the education system refuses to acknowledge
  • Learn the One-Two-Three punch combo that is the sure-fire way to reawakening genius

Stroke of Insight: Jill Bolte Taylor at TED.com

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

"How many brain scientists have been able to study the brain from the inside out? I’ve gotten as much out of this experience of losing my left mind as I have in my entire academic career."

Jill Bolte Taylor

Jill Bolte Taylor was a 37-year-old Harvard-trained brain scientist when a blood vessel exploded in her brain. One day, she woke up and realized she was having a massive stroke…

(Recorded February 2008 in Monterey, California. Duration: 18:44.)

She spoke at TED (which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design - three wide-ranging subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future.) Every year, 1300 of the world’s leading thinkers and doers gather together for four days of networking, education and exposure to new ideas. Past speakers and performers have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Paul Simon, Richard Branson, Frank Gehry, Philippe Starck, James Watson, Billy Graham, Jane Goodall, Al Gore, and Bono.

However, TED is about much more than famous names, Jill says. It is about passion, laughter, beauty, and ingenuity. It is about ideas capable of changing the world, and she was given 18 minutes to share her personal story and an idea that she believed was worth spreading. She says her experience at TED was both phenomenal and life transforming. Her story is a powerful one of recovery and awareness.

"So who are we? We are the life force power of the universe, with manual dexterity and two cognitive minds. And we have the power to choose, moment by moment, who and how we want to be in the world. Right here right now, I can step into the consciousness of my right hemisphere where we are — I am — the life force power of the universe, and the life force power of the 50 trillion beautiful molecular geniuses that make up my form. At one with all that is. Or I can choose to step into the consciousness of my left hemisphere. where I become a single individual, a solid, separate from the flow, separate from you. I am Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, intellectual, neuroanatomist. These are the "we" inside of me.

Which would you choose? Which do you choose? And when? I believe that the more time we spend choosing to run the deep inner peace circuitry of our right hemispheres, the more peace we will project into the world and the more peaceful our planet will be. And I thought that was an idea worth spreading."

Core Identity: Are you who YOU want to be?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The "science" behind this states that everybody has 2 versions of themselves:

1. the identity they really walk around with = the shell
2. the person they really want to be = the core identity

 window_of_the_soul_

The core identity is the true identity, held captive by lack of knowledge, and circumstance.

If you are working as a lawyer in a law firm, working 70hr weeks and not very satisfied, your shell dictates that you are a stressed out lawyer.
But, your core identity could be that of an artist. Or a Casanova. Or a rock star.
That’s your core identity. That’s who YOU want to be.

Most communication between people is surface to surface, shell to shell. That means, you hear someone’s words, and based on those words, you comply…or not.

Our deepest core desires are never things such as ‘make money’, ‘get out of the house’, etc… If this is what you think it is, your brain is lying to you. It’s never something like that. These are the just surface outcomes. The truth is, the whole point of ourselves is to create and to perpetuate experiences. Goals are meaningless.

If you think about what you want in life, you will probably find that it’s not about money or wealth. It’s experiences, as well as to perpetuate, and to create.

You need to know who you are, and who you want to be. But, how do you know?

THE QUESTION:

If there were no limitations or consequences, what would your perfect, average day look like?

Limitations means you don’t have to worry about money, health, geography nor limiting people.

Consequences means it has to be something safe, not anything that will get you in trouble or arrested. Be wise.

Average means you could do it everyday and not get killed (this means your perfect day would not include climbing Mount Everest, for example.)

Ask yourself:

  • Where would you live?
  • What would your house look like?
  • What time would you wake up?
  • What would you do in the morning?
  • What would you do in the first hour of your day?
  • Who would you eat with?
  • What would you eat?
  • What would your friends be like?
  • What would you do for personal fulfillment?
  • What purpose would you strive for?
  • What would your business be?
  • What would you actually do for work?
  • What are your clients like?
  • What are your relationships like?
  • What would you do for family time?
  • What would you have for dinner?
  • What would you talk about over dinner?
  • What would you do at night?
  • Who would you do it with?
  • Where would you be?
  • Where would you do it?
  • What would your thoughts be as you go to sleep?

Your perfect day will help you identify who you really are, and what your core identity is.

Law of Attraction

When you have a picture on your mind of your core identity and your new life, you’ll find that things start moving you towards that: you start attracting the right circumstances, the right people and so on… This is because you are more focused on your goals as you work towards them…

What we are really aiming for is this:

  • experiences (because goals are meaningless);
  • a new identity, and
  • the sum of all this is Life.

Increase your Brain Activity with 15 Ideas

These are 15 fun ideas that will increase your brain activity. It has been proven that the more exercise you give your brain the more it will grow and operate to new super levels. Are you striving to be more intelligent, more creative? Here’s a great platform on how you can achieve your goals.

15 Extra Ways to Keep Your Brain In Shape

“If you nurture your mind, body and spirit, your time will expand. You will gain a new perspective that will allow you to accomplish much more.”

- Brian Koslow

It’s simple, your brain is at the center of everything you do, all you feel and think, and every nuance of how you relate to people. It’s both the supercomputer that runs your complex life and the tender organ that houses your soul. So it is very important to focus on keeping your brain in shape.

By regularly engaging in the right activities, you can increase your memory, improve your problem-solving skills and boost your creativity. Here are some extra tips on how to keep your brain in top nick.

1. Just stop.

“Take 20-30 minutes out of your day to think about nothing. But don’t sleep – you’ve got to meditate. Sit still, reduce sensory input, and try to focus your mind on something like a calm scene or a color (to begin with thinking about something rather than trying to think of ‘nothing’ is easier). A study at the University of Kentucky revealed that subjects who took a late-afternoon test after meditating for 30 minutes had better scores than those who napped for the same time.”

2. Hit the streets.

“Lace up your running shoes and get moving. A study from the University of Illinois, US, revealed that aerobic exercise actually increases brain volume. They put two groups through different regimens - one did aerobic training three times weekly for one hour; the other group did just stretching and toning exercise. The aerobics group had increased their brain volume and white matter, which forms the connections between neurons.”

3. Mix it up.

“Exercise has long been hailed as an aid to brain-power longevity. But to ensure you’re not leaving the gas on in your eighties, vary your workout routines now. Try changing things up on a regular basis and you’ll stimulate your brain more because you’re not using the same pathway over and over again.”

4. Read a book.

“Choose from classic literature, science fiction or personal development books and give your brain a boost. Pick up a novel before your next flight or vacation. On top of the cerebral benefits, the escapism that comes from reading can be very relaxing. Reading helps you exercise your cognitive skills and increase your vocabulary. Do it regularly and you’ll be amazed at the information you absorb, which will make you a more interesting conversationalist.”

5. One-cup-manship.

“Swilling coffee could be the perfect accompaniment to the cryptic crossword. Austrian researchers measuring brain activity found short-term memory and concentration improved after consuming 100mg of caffeine - equal to an Americano. But after 40 minutes those guinea pigs were back to the dumbness levels of a twice-a-day Deal Or No Deal viewer.”

6. Engage in a debate.

A lively discussion can be invigorating. As long as you avoid letting it digress into an argument, you can have a lot of fun debating the pros and cons of an issue with a friend or colleague. Playing with your brain stimulates blood flow and strengthens the connections (synapses) between nerve cells in the brain. You’ll practice your quick thinking skills, logic and creativity. And developing convincing theories on the spot will help you in your career and in your personal relationships.

7. Grab the Brainbox 360 controller.

“Believe it or not, playing certain video games can actually be good for your health. You’ll develop stronger visual skills and make decisions 85% faster than non-gamers, say experts from the University of Rochester, New York. Gamers can read the newspaper, recognize a scene or pick out facial features faster in between fragging killer aliens.”

8. Subscribe to a daily newsletter.

“Make the most out of your web surfing. Whether it’s a “word of the day,” “quote of the day” or “this day in history” newsletter, receiving new information each day will add data to the hard drive in your head. The mental stimulation will increase your comprehension skills. The additional knowledge will also make you sound more worldly and intelligent.”

9. Curry favours.

“Tuck into a Ruby Murray tonight to clear the mental cobwebs. Scientists from University of California discovered that curcumin – a yellow-coloured compound found in the curry spice turmeric can slow the onset of memory loss. Small doses of curry could also help protect the brain against Alzheimer’s disease - at least that’s the effect in rats. Curries with a yellow tinge will have the highest curcumin count.”

10. Grab a cue and play pool.

“Rack ‘em up, grab a cue and concentrate on your strategy. Billiard players must focus on the immediate, blocking out distractions as they plan their next moves. Strategic planning increases mental clarity. Concentrating on the immediate helps keep your mind sharp. Furthermore, this game of angles demands that players think in terms of physics, something most of us rarely do in our everyday lives. And it’s a brilliant way to pass the time.”

20 Great Problem Solving Tools and Techniques

Have you been faced with a problem but haven’t had the right tools and techniques for solving it. I’ve dug up 20 great problem solving tools and techniques that will reduce the time it takes you to solve problems. It doesn’t matter whether you’re solving small mental problems or really serious and complex problems these problem solving tools and techniques will still apply.

These tips can aid you through everyday life and will teach you how to deal with sometimes the most abstract of situations. One great tip for solving problems is to never be one dimensional about the whole process, creativity in many different forms will guide you to the answers.

These tips come from the great Win Wenger. . . He’s a modern day thinker in creative problem solving.

20 Problem Solving Tools and Techniques

1. Really want to solve the problem.

2. Have wide-ranging interests, and feed them.

3. Be willing to entertain ideas and inspirations from outside the box—not only “think outside the box.” Learn from any and every source as per our new ancient saying:

“Anyone can learn from someone wise….it takes someone pretty wise to be able to learn even from fools.”

4. Be willing to keep coming back to the problem from different directions.

5. Be willing to let go of it between times, deal with other matters or to—

  •  tend the garden
  •  wash the dishes
  •  meditate
  •  experience or ‘do’ in the arts.
  •  take inordinate pleasure in little things—sometimes that’s all you’ll have, sometimes those become big worthy things

6. Keep/build your stamina and follow-through.

7. Keep your health.

8. “Keep your day job.”

9. Keep your sense of humor.

10. Be fully creative, then fully critical, then fully creative…..

11. Raise and keep up your level of ongoing tinkering—

  • tinker with the problem
  • tinker with the idea or with ideas
  • tinker with other things
  • be opportunistic
  • fiddle in other creative activities, keep those further resources of yours in the picture

12. Work in creative bursts; don’t 9-to-5 it. Grinding a chapter a day just doesn’t do it. Fly on inspiration as fast as possible before the pattern dissipates. Fly fast on inspiration as long as possible, then climb right back on and go up again. You get more of what you reinforce. Moreover, the unique rewards of working inspired will keep you reinforced to be creative. Be willing to dog-plod some of the task, on some sort of scheduled regular basis of production, but do as much as possible inspired. Don’t wait for inspiration, find it.

13. Build high self-esteem—

Reinforce your confidence by being self-critical from time to time.

Search hard for everything that might be wrong with your idea-theory-discovery-invention, then: “Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead!”

14. Do your homework, keep on getting better informed in the context.

15. Pat yourself on the back on some of those many occasions when no one is going to do that for you. Find others also doing something worthwhile and pat them on the back.—A small but definite percentage will reciprocate. Find/create a support group. You don’t have to be alone. Support can be found in unexpected places.

16. Appreciate: “the closest distance between two points” in human affairs is usually a very zig-zag line!

17. Appreciate: the assets and abilities which have brought you this far already.

18. Appreciate: the many, many others who have been this part of the road and somehow made it through. Resolve to be with them and not with those who instead fell to the wayside. You deserve to make it through, you’re going to make it through, you have within you and above you what it takes to make it through! People need, human beings depend on, what you’re bringing through! And many with far less to do it with than you, have made it through!

19. Be sure of at least some of the worth of what you are seeking to bring through.

20. Get visibly on record everyone who says “no” to you and their grounds for saying “no.” Prepare for publication your running memoirs about your campaign and how these people, by name, title and position, said “no.” Some will find it safer to say “yes” rather than join the public ranks of the following, as reported once in Reader’s Digest under “History Lessons”—

If You Want Your Children To Be Creative Don’t Send Them To School

Monday, May 7th, 2007

OK, I admit this might not be the best bit of advice in the world BUT . . . there is an element of truth in it. If you don’t believe me see what Sir Ken Robinson has to say on the matter - he was after all knighted by the Queen in 2003 for services to education, culture and the arts.

I discovered this video on a great blogpost called Do Schools Kill Our Creativity?

Ken shares some thoughts:

Picasso once said:

All children are born artists, the problem is remaining an artist as we grow up.

It’s so important that you allow your children to be the most amazing, creative, little rascals that they clearly have the potential to be.

Let Ken Inspire You To Think Differently

Human creativity is a truly remarkable thing that never ceases to amaze.

What’s Your IQ?

You Can Increase the Power of your Brain

There are many people in life who cruise along in their comfort zone in a low powered job when they could be pushing for things a lot harder and pushing themselves in life. Often the one thing thats holding them back is themselves - they might not think they are good at anything and just settle for something easy.

If this is you I have a newsflash for you - EVERYBODY IN LIFE IS GOOD AT SOMETHING - there it is. . .

If you think this isn’t the case then you simply haven’t found what you are good at yet. I recently found a great article that shows the best ways to optimize your IQ and to optimize the potential of the brain. And the good news is that it’s so easy.

Optimizing Your I.Q. and Maximizing the Brain’s Potential

Everyone has heard of an IQ test. The potential of the brain is called intelligence quotient or I.Q. These tests use the theories of unitary and multiple, which is believed to the two main theories when studying the brain.

Unitary refers to the part of the brain where the linguistic and mathematical capacities and confined them to that area. While the multiply theory include the parts of the brain that use visual/ spatial, musical/rhythmic, body/kinesthetic, interpersonal or intrapersonal development.

It has been determined that there is only three ways to increase your brains potential.

You first have to determine what you are good at. Very few people are good at everything. A person is considered intelligent whether their skill is derived from music, visual, body, or intrapersonal, intelligence.

Most people possess these skills and probably do not even realize it. If you are a creative person at heart, try your hand at writing, acting or singing.

You may be amazed at how well you do. Some people are born with in affinity for numbers; you may not think it is anything special, however others may. There are so many different areas in which you the potential excel.

Gymnastics, Dancing, building or designing, you do not know what you are capable of doing until you try. You get the most amazing feeling when you accomplish something you have never done before. If you do not even try, you are doing yourself a great disservice.

Very few people are classified as geniuses. A genius is a person who has extreme intelligence. Such people include Einstein, Mozart and Bach. These brilliant men accomplished greatness through their genius. This is not to say that you have to be a genius to be successful.

It simply means that you should use your brain to the fullest extent that you can. The more you try to improve yourself, the more your brain will benefit from it. When you utilize your brains potential you can achieve anything. Using your will power can point you in the right direction.

Broadening your horizons will also increase your brains potential. This is not to say that you should sit down and study the encyclopedia. When you study, you are acquiring knowledge through all five senses- touch, taste, see, smell, and taste.

You want to learn from your experiences in life, and experience everything in life. You cannot do that by studying. This is an excellent way to increase the potential of your brain.

New skills can be learned everyday. Talent comes in two forms, either you are born with it or you learn it. The brain is like a sponge, ready to absorb everything that is brought to it. The old adage that practice makes perfect holds true.

It is not difficult to maximize the brains potential. Many people everyday do it without even realizing it.

By simply reading a book, or singing along to your favorite song on the radio, you can increase your brains potential.

S0 . . . What’s your IQ?

The article demonstrated how to optimize your IQ, let’s get the facts briefly on IQ tests:

An intelligence quotient or IQ is a score derived from one of several different standardized tests attempting to measure intelligence. IQ tests are generally designed and used because they are found to be predictive of later intellectual achievement, such as educational achievement. IQ also correlates with job performance and income, although in all cases other factors explain most of the variance. Recent work has demonstrated links between IQ and health.

There’s the facts; I don’t really want to get into a debate about the virtue of IQ tests and how much they are truly worth. I just want to add that they indeed have their critiques that see them as being outdated and inaccurate.

Some scientists dispute psychometrics entirely. In The Mismeasure of Man professor Stephen Jay Gould argued that intelligence tests were based on faulty assumptions and showed their history of being used as the basis for scientific racism.  He wrote:

“…the abstraction of intelligence as a single entity, its location within the brain, its quantification as one number for each individual, and the use of these numbers to rank people in a single series of worthiness, invariably to find that oppressed and disadvantaged groups—races, classes, or sexes—are innately inferior and deserve their status.”
