Slow Down! Find your Inner Tortoise
May 28th, 2007Are We Living The Fast Life or the Good Life?
Just think how hectic modern life has become, the hustle and bustle of city life and the rat race has never been more chaotic. We are vastly living in a society that revolves around time and time’s running out!
BUT . . . have you ever thought that this pace of life is damaging your health, relationships, love life and your recognition of the finer things in life?
I’m showcasing for you another great TED talk from Canadian journalist, Carl Honore who is a stern advocate of the slow movement.

The best phrase I associate with Slowness
is ‘Free-Time’.
Are you supra-productive during your work-time?
is the question I ask before rewarding myself
with Free-Time.
My comfort-zone requires producing
three good ideas daily on Microsoft Word.
Experience has convinced me Speed Learning
(advanced speed reading), offers me more
bang for the buck. It increases personal
productivity up to 35% in blasting through
trivia, and retaining quality knowledge.
Want more Free-time? Stop trivializing your
work-time reading like a snail. Reward yourself
because you are personally productive.
Google speedlearning.
See ya,
Hal

I think his information is good but couldn’t listen to him for long because ironically his speed speaking is difficult to listen to, particularly in light of his subject.

Carl speeks about slow down ,but he himself brings me nerves in

age of 55 ,and it take me 2 jears to learn “slow” down.

You speak awfully fast for someone promoting “slow” but I surely enjoyed your presentation anyway. I’m 75 and have slowed down naturally as I age and have worked really hard at living more quality time instead of quantity but I’m still a recovering workaholic. I just changed jobs and, in spite of myriad health problems, I’m really enjoying the time I have left. I haven’t worked full-time in over 20 years and work daily to put balance in my life, especially focusing on enough “down time”. Thanks for your insight. You have helped me keep a positive focus on slowing down while still living life to the fullest as best I can.
Lovingly,
Sue

Hello everyone, Thanks for your comments. He’s talking so fast because he only has a 20 min slot to get his ideas across. That’s all they allow in the TED Talks!
I’ve embedded the video from YouTube now so it should load FAST now. Enjoy!
